Building Everyone’s Success Together
In West Africa
Vision: We see a Liberia with spiritually, emotionally, and physically healthy people whom we will teach to train others until we affect all of Grand Bassa, and then the rest of Liberia. Isaiah 58:6-12; 61:1-3
Mission: We build everyone’s authentic success together. We alleviate unacceptably high maternal and infant mortality by providing excellent, loving, birthing care and training Liberians to do the same. We help malnourished and starving children thrive through nutrition, education and biblical training. We challenge youth to serve God, their community and their country. We assist deserving students with scholarships. We train pastors and community leaders to be knowledgeable and effective.
Core Values: We are Christians who actively and humbly seek God’s leading as we serve Liberians, following the example and teachings of Jesus. We are called to build everyone’s true success together. The following statements reflect the values central to our corporate identity:
We are Christians: We believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We affirm that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that faith in Him as the giver of eternal life is the only way of salvation from sin’s guilt and power. We strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ as found in the Bible, for in His life we see the example for our own. We desire Christ to be the central focus of our individual and corporate lives. We acknowledge and celebrate the unity of the worldwide body of Christ in all of its diverse manifestations.
We seek God’s leading: Through prayer, study of God’s word, and mutual reflection and discussion, we continually seek God’s direction in all of our planning, decisions and actions.
We serve others: We strive for Christ-like servanthood as we reflect through our actions Jesus’ special concern for the suffering, the afflicted, the oppressed, and those poor of spirit, body and mind. We are convicted by the words of Jesus, as found in the Gospels, that whatever we do for those most in need, we also do for Him.
Our Commitments: The following are the key commitments we strive to honor in carrying out our Vision, Mission and Core Values.
We build authentic success
Our primary commitment is found in Building Everyone’s Success Together in West Africa by:
Building: We are here to build lives of lasting value in ourselves and others based on a solid foundation of biblical principles and wisdom.
Everyone’s: We affirm that all people are created equal in the image of God, and should therefore share in both stewarding and enjoying the gifts God has provided us in His creation. We strive to do justice and love mercy, and we seek to comfort, lift up and defend those who are down trodden in order to build their true success.
Success: We define success as the ability of individuals, families and communities to work together to transform the conditions that promote their physical, emotional, social, economical, environmental and spiritual well being. We believe the fall of man in Genesis destroyed the four basic relationships for every person; the individual’s relationship with God, with themselves, with others, and with the environment. We believe only through Jesus Christ can all things be restored as found in Colossians 1:20. We do this by demonstrating excellence in all we do, providing individual and group teaching, and building healthy individual and group relationships.
Together: This is a team effort. Everyone is important and no one is indispensible. Together we demonstrate the love of God within the team so we can express genuine love to those whom we wish to assist. Our basic definition of love is: Always doing what is best for the other person.
In West Africa: This is where we work. At present we are only in Liberia. We have been invited to other West Africa countries, but believe we have much to do in Liberia before we consider working elsewhere.
We respond to needs
We commit ourselves to listen to the voices and concerns of others who express needs and we strive to respond in appropriate ways. We commit to encourage and honor local initiative, promoting the use of local resources and protecting the dignity of the poor. We will use our resources to meet these expressed needs in a sustainable manner, encouraging innovation, creativity and flexibility. We emphasize actions that address long-term needs, while recognizing a responsibility to meet the immediate needs of individuals, families and communities when possible and supportive of our long term vision.
We build partnerships
We proclaim the value of collaboration, of working together to achieve common goals. We commit to promoting unity, equality, voice, participation, cooperation, resource-sharing, interdependence, growth and integration among the people and groups where we work. We recognize as our primary partner those with whom we seek to serve. We collaborate with our own staff, donors and supporters, churches, NGO’s, and government agencies who share a common commitment to promoting true success among individuals, families and communities. We place great value on our volunteers, staff and their families, and we seek to create healthy relationships and opportunities for personal and professional growth within the organization.
We act with integrity
In all that we do, we seek to act with integrity, openness, honesty and accountability. We recognize that the financial and material resources with which we work are not our own, but have been entrusted to us for use in alleviating the suffering of others. We value people as reflections of God’s image, and we strive for integrity and accountability in our relationships with donors, staff and partners. We commit to managing these resources with God’s direction to the maximum benefit of those we serve.
We pursue excellence
To ensure excellence in all we do, we strive to attract talented, honest and committed people, to develop our staff, and to seek partnership with other leaders. Through research, planning and participatory decision-making, we will design and implement effective programs with meaningful impact. We will set measurable goals and objectives to accomplish our plans.
We desire to learn
We recognize our responsibility to strive for a better understanding of the cultural, social, economic, political and spiritual elements of our ministry. To gain this understanding, we will be students of the cultures, environments and contexts within which we work, investigating and learning from developments and trends, and engaging in disciplined research and study. We will promote a learning environment where critical thinking and dialogue are encouraged and celebrated.
